What the hell is a wiki?

  • A wiki is a collection of web pages that anyone (including you!) can edit.

  • The term "wiki" is derived from the Hawaiian phrase "wiki wiki," indicating "quickly" or "fast."

  • So... a wiki is a type of website that allows users to add, remove, or otherwise edit all content quickly and easily. The interactive style, and ease of use, make wiki sites highly effective tools for organizing and sharing information.

  • Some have suggested that the word "wiki" is a backronym for "What I Know Is." That's a pretty good way to describe what a wiki is built to do; it allows a community of users to contribute, organize, store and exchange knowledge.
